I am happy to announce your child has been selected to play on the SMYO Mets Minor League team. My name is John Berry and I will be the team manager this year for the Mets and I am looking forward to working with your son this season. My goal is to work with each and every child to improve their skills, teach values of teamwork, good sportsmanship and most of all, let them have fun playing the game of baseball.
As you are aware, all organized sports are temporarily suspended until Monday April 6, 2020. As soon as I receive an update on when we can start practices I will forward info along.
Our practices are currently scheduled for Mondays’ and Friday’s, 6pm -8pm for both days.

Monday evening practices will be held at Berry Elementary School. 10155 Berry Rd, Waldorf, MD 20603
Friday evening practices will be held at SMYO Field 3. 8210 Marshall Corner Rd, Pomfret, MD 20675
I ask all parent to please have your child at the field 15 minutes prior to practice start time so we can stretch, warm up and start activities on time, as a team. For games, I ask that all players be at the field 30 minutes prior to game time, so we are ready to take the field on time. If your child cannot make a game or practice for any reason, please notify me. This is extremely important for game days as the team line up must be submitted 15 minutes prior to the start of the game.
A concession stand schedule will be forwarded once our game schedules are received. The home team is responsible for supplying one volunteer to work the concession stand. Those scheduled to work the concession stand must report to the concession stand 5 minutes prior to game time, at the latest. Per the bylaws, game balls will not be given out until the volunteer has checked in at the concession stand.
SMYO will provide bats, helmets, catchers gear and practice balls. For those who wish to purchase and use their own bats, please note, all bats must be USA Approved. Gameday uniforms (Hat, Shirt & Socks) will also be provided by SMYO, each player is required to purchase their own baseball pants. The color of pants required is gray. For practices, please have your child dressed and ready for baseball, baseball pants or sweatpants, cleats, glove, hat and athletic cup (If they want to catch). I ask that shorts not been worn as we will be doing sliding drills.
At your earliest convenience, please download the SSU Play App, the app is linked to SMYO website, our team information as far as practice schedules, game schedules, roster , etc. will be found there. Once you download the app, please use the email that was used to register your child and you should be added to the Met’s page.
My coaching staff and I look forward to working with your child throughout the season, please always keep in mind that Little League Baseball is about the child playing the game, I ask parents to always support their child, teammates, coaching staff, umpires and opponents in victory or defeat. The mental aspect of this game is just as important as the physical aspect. Our goal throughout this season is to provide your child with the skills to improve their fielding, catching , throwing and batting , ultimately leaving them wanting to continue the game of baseball.
