SMYO CODE OF CONDUCT
Purpose and Intent: Participation in sports can be a great learning experience for players, coaches, referees, parents, and administrators alike. These experiences often transfer into our daily lives at home, at school, and in the office during our recreational time.
Southern Maryland Youth Organization (SMYO) has developed the following codes of conduct to establish standards for participation in all sports programs. All participants are encouraged to adopt these policies in order to provide a positive and rewarding experience for everybody involved in the programs. These codes of conduct are based on sportsmanship and fair play while creating a fun and positive environment for all involved.
The Players Code of Conduct:
- Play for fun and enjoyment of the sport.
- Winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one.
- Work hard to improve your skills.
- Be a team player get along with and cooperate with your teammates.
- Learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.
- Learn the rules and play by them. Always be a good sport!
- Respect your coaches, teammates, parents, opponents, and the officials.
- Never argue with the decision of an official or coach.
- Respect the organization and its facilities; without them, you wouldn't have a place to play.
Parents and Spectators Code of Conduct:
- Display good sportsmanship. Always respect players, coaches, and officials.
- Know and study the rules of the game and support the officials.
- Act appropriately; do not taunt or disturb other fans. Enjoy the game.
- Cheer in a positive manner and encourage fair play.
- Do not embarrass children by yelling, booing, or criticizing. Be supportive!
- Do not use foul/obscene language.
- Applaud a good effort in victory or defeat.
- Recognize the importance of volunteer coaches.
GAMES/PRACTICES AT CHARLES COUNTY PARKS OR SCHOOL FIELDS
I agree to abide by all Charles County recreational soccer/baseball league guidelines, County Park rules and County Parents Code of Ethics. Any VIOLATION of the above code or any threats of violence, verbal or physical abuse made by myself, family members or individuals that accompany me to any practices, games or events, toward coaches, officials, team parents, SMYO Board Members, Spectators, or Charles County Representatives, may result in immediate and permanent removal from any and all activities within the SMYO baseball, softball, and soccer programs.
EQUIPMENT SAFETY REQUIREMENT
Players must wear safety equipment, such as helmets and shin guards (any equipment the organization establishes as a program requirement), during all practices and games.
